In fact we have had to "rearrange" the endings of two of the arias in
"Tosca" because there is no written pause between the aria and the
subsequent material. Since they know pretty much where the audience will
be applauding, and since we can't well continue playing while they do so,
it's been planned ahead of time! I love learning new stuff every day!
