For some (maybe many) of the people attending, you may have hit the
nail on the head - not that they can't tell the difference, but that
they haven't really experienced the exceptional performance. I know
from my own personal experiences attending concerts that I became
much more selective about whether to participate in the frequent
standing ovations after hearing artists such as Itzhak Perlman -
whose performance drove everyone to their feet within seconds of the
last note.
