And is the not the bore of the clarinet conical? The bore itself may be
a series of three cylinders of ever increasing size, but the net result
is that the opening at the lower end of the lower joint is substantially
larger than the opening at the top end of the upper joint.

In earlier clarinets, there was no cylindricity, just a cone.

I'm getting more confused by the hour.
