I am forwording this to the list at the request of a friend at the
University of Florida who is not subscribed to KLARINET.

THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC

at the

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

announces

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS IN PERFORMANCE

Performance areas: Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon,
Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, French Horn, Percussion, Saxophone, and Voice

Established ensembles - such as Woodwind Quintets, Brass Quintets, or
String Quartets - are encouraged to apply as well.

Primary Responsibilities: Perform with large and small ensembles, based
on the needs of the department, with possible additional opportunities in
the area of teaching.

Stipend: Graduate Assistants receive an annual stipend of up to $4100, as
well as an annual tuition waiver of $2,232 for Florida residents and
$7,818 for out-of-state residents, based on 18 hours of registration for
the first year. Students must establish Florida residency after the first
year of enrollment and will receive only in-state tuition waivers along
with stipends for succeeding years.

Starting Date:August, 1998

Degrees Offered:The University of Florida offers the Master of Music
degree in Composition, Conducting, Music History and Literature, Music
Education, Pedagogy, Performance, Sacred Music, and Theory, as well as the
Ph.D. in Music Education, with emphases in Music Education, Music Hostory,
or Music Theory.

Application Process

1. Locate the College Web Site: http://WWW.arts.ufl.edu/COLLEGE/apps.html

2. Print out the Application for Admission, fill it out, and mail one to
the Graduate School and one to the Department of Music

3.Self-report upper division (junior and senior years) GPA on the
application, and have official transcripts sent to the Graduate School and
the Department of Music as soon as possible (GRE requirement waived for
students in Performance degree track, contingent upon a minimum
undergraduate GPA of 3.00)

4.Print out 3 Letter of Recommendation forms, and have them filled out and
mailed to the Department of Music as soon as possible.

5.Print out Application for Graduate Assistantship, fill out, and mail,
along with an audition tape and the copy of the Application for Admission
to the Deparmtent of Music
