It sounds like this might be the same phenomonen that causes the string
trick to work. For those who haven't heard of it before- it is possible to
suspend a string- of what diameter I've no clue, through the bore of a Bb
clarinet and end up with something approximating an A. It looks like I'll
be headed for my acoustics book....
