Oh, geez! Are we now saying that not only does the material make a
difference but, in mouthpieces at least, the particular FORMULATION of the
same basic material (hard rubber) makes a difference?

Bill,
There are different grades of hard rubber and few mouthpieces today are made
from pure rubber, but a mixture or recipe if you will of plastic and rubber.
It is this formula that has a decided effect on tone color.
