Never mind Joe the Brass Major! I KNOW the kids' thumbrests shouldn't be all
the way at the crooks of their hands, TELL them so, and they STILL do it. I
could beat them, but I can't afford the legal fees. I've never used neck
straps with clarinet students, but my least worry would be that using one
would promote an incorrect right hand position. I agree. Taking some of the
weight off the thumb might actually help.
