Hi all. Two comments/subjects here. First, has anyone played the 1st cl part
to the Apotheosis of This Earth and what multiphonic/extended techniques or
special fingerings did you use? Our community band sightread this last night,
and I just couldn't play soft enough without the 'grunt' creeping in, not to
mention the quarter tone deal. I tried approching the notes from above and
flattening them, instead of trying to lip up 50 cents, but I couldn't do it
softly enough. I am going to get out my Ridenour book for some of the
fingerings, and I have some articles from the Clarinet and Instrumentalist
magazine on the subject, but if somebody has played the piece recently and can
tell me what they did, it would sure save time! Any help would be
appreciated.
Also, Eric asked about Zonda's grading. I find that they play softer
than V-12s, but not by an entire half strength. I use V-12 #4, so I go back
and forth between #4 and #41/2 on Zondas. Actually, I'm so enthralled by the
new Gr. Concert Select thick blanks that I haven't played either of the other
2 brands in the 2 months that I've had the Rico's! Hope this helps.
Thanks all Elise
