i wonder about this callous (and remember, i'm a neckstrap user and am
not going to taunt jason about being a weakling).

i've had a callous on my thumb since very shortly after i took up the
clarinet at age 11. it's never been more than a cosmetic
inconvenience: i've *never* experienced soreness there (just about
everywhere else on my body, but not there ;-).

i wonder if there's not some other effect than simple pressure giving
a problem here. if it's an allergic reaction of some sort, jennifer's
proposed solution could well cause your soreness to go away
altogether: at the revised price (:-) it's worth a try...
