I used to own one and I know of about 4 or 5 others in the US. There
is lots of music for A bass including almost every Mahler symphony,
Rachmaninoff, Dohnanyi, and much more in Nutcracker than you said.
There are about 4 or 5 pieces with an A bass.

I sold mine to the b.c. of the Toronto Symphony.
