Incorrect. My backup clarinet (an ancient Rene Dumont) has a hairline
crack in the barrel. When I apply bore oil, the crack closes up!

Just a guess, but it IS possible the manufacturers have some idea what they
are talking about, having worked with grenadilla wood for, is some cases,
literally hundreds of years.
