I've played clarinet for almost 50 years, and still use the Buffet my father
purchased for me in 1946. It has had bore oil applied once, in about 1949-50.
After I had done it, my teacher said "NEVER do that again.". It is impossible
to get all the oil out, as some always goes into the tone holes, and an
invisible film collects dust and lint, which collects around springs, posts
and most anything else.
I have had two reputable repair-men, (one semi-famous) tell me the same thing.
I did, however use a VERY small amount on my Bass Cl. when I first bought it
about 20 years ago. It should last a long time, yet
That's my experience, with some fairly authoritative advice
Other opinions?
