Having horrible acoustics can be great, too - I use it to check my sound.
Concrete stairwells and metal elevators make EXCELLENT practice rooms when
my embouchure is tired. Because the sound has a tendency to ring, and
quite loudly, my ears cannot escape the fact that I really can and should
be sounding better, forcing me to fix it. Having a bigger resonance helps
with that, perhaps more so than freeing my embourchure.

Of course, as my professor (and roommate, and HS director, current
director...) might tell you, when it comes to bass, I have no problems
playing out without restraint at all. ^_^
