So, OK, now I have to pay for my mischevous comments with something
constructive to the conversation.

My R-13 A clarinet was made in about 1968; it is significantly heavier to
both of my R-13 Bb's (one from 1976, the other from the early 90's). I
have compared it to other, more recently manufactured A clarinets and it
is noticeably heavier than them, also. I've never bothered to find out
WHY, as the WHY doesn't really matter to me; it is simply a fact, and I
often use a neckstrap to alleviate the thumb weight. Any one know for
sure why this would be?
