Wow!!! I knew I could get some help from this list.. I now understand why
I am having a little trouble with the altissimo register. If I could just
understand what you guys are talking about... My practice session today
was much improved. I can now overblow several notes, that I was not aware
of. All I need to do now is control my tongue to overblow the right
partial at the right time with the right fingering and make it sound dark
and beautiful. I should have it down by tomorrow...

Seriously, Roger, your explaination helped a lot. And yes I think I
understand my problem and how to work through it. My teacher was in fact
talking about a break between g'' and a'' in the clarion register, which
was confusing me a little. Norwegian is my second language, and my teacher
conducts the lessons in norwegian, so perhaps I misunderstood. I was
looking for the technical details which you have given. The more I
understand, the better I can control my playing. I have read several books
on clarinet harmonics recently, so this is all beginning to make sense.

Ed Lacy asked about getting paid for playing in the musikkorps in Norway.
The answer is....... Nei! Our musikkorps is funded in part by a music
school system in Norway. Most of the funds, however, comes from our
members dues and fundraising. Instrumental rental for members is free,
however. So what did I do? I went out and bought a new Prestige RC with
my own money.

I subscribe to the digest version, so it is a little difficult to respond
to all the good suggestions. Keep them coming. I'm sure that we will all
learn a little more about harmonics, partials, etc. (Besides, I might have
been a little successful in changing the subject on the list. He, he,
he!!!)

PS: I was a little suprised when I saw my e-mail on the list. Apparently
my spell checker did not recognize "Altissimo" in the subject and changed
it to "Altimetry". Kind of fitting though.
