Besides the difficulty of properly getting the altisimo notes out, I also
have a problem with the tonal quality of these notes. As is the case
with many advanced high school and perhaps even college players, my upper
notes tend to sound a bit shrill. In fact, the higher I go, the brighter
the notes sound. Is there anything I can do to darken my altissimo notes
and let them sound richer?

p.s. I've tried to "open up" my throat. It didn't work too well because
altissimo notes seem to be very susceptible to embouchure and/or mouth
changes. Whereas "opening up" works well to darken the tone of the
clarion range, it drastically drops the pitches of the altissimo notes.
Pitch, in my opinion, should not be a sacrifice for tone.
