My suggestion would be to soak the reeds in peroxide for about 10 seconds
everytime she uses one. Rinse the reeds off, and if the reed holder she's
using isn't a Vandie, she should probably stop using it, or get a Vandie.
The reason I suggest this, is that other reed holder seem to cut the reed
vamp off from any air, so it holds the moisture in, instead of letting it
dry. The Vandie has little vents along the table to allow air to the
entire reed. Personally, I just use a rubberband and a piece of glass -
it allows the reed to dry out completely, eliminating (or at least,
delaying) the onset of any fungi.
