I have personally never been bothered by competition...either with
marching bands or concert bands. It is the vehicle for the competition
that I worry about. Competition is a way of life......just to get into
the orchestra requires amazing competitive skills....not to mention
clarinet and musical skills. The trophy is the job!

But.....there is a difference between individual and group efforts in a
competitive atomosphere.
