Hi Allison--

Welcome to the world of clarinetting. Some of the folks on this list
are professional clarinet players/college teachers who obviously spend
too much time playing with software. Others have stronger opinions.

I am a lawyer by day (for a software company--I get to play with
computers for a living) and play 3 nights a week with a wind ensemble, a
band and a pretty good community orchestra (our second commercial CD
will be released this summer). By far the most valuable educational
experience I had--from and including law school--was in various band
rooms. Aside from learning how to play, I learned how to study, how to
work with other people and how to apply some discipline to myself.

25 years from now, you'll go to your 20th high school reunion. The most
successful people there--by most any measure--will be your friends from
band. Keep it up, get a couple of good reeds and practice.

Welcome Allison,

I hope that you will enjoy this list. There are all levels of players
here. Many excellent discussions take place all the time. Even though
some do get pretty heated, it is extremely educational.

As for myself, I am a product engineer in the heat exchanger field.
Playing and studying the clarinet is my avocation.
