Yes, Roger, I have played the Hindemith and Holst suites.....When will you
break free from your stereotypes??? There are some excellent players in high
school, and I'm sure there are some that play on even par with those from
college. Granted, most college players are far better than high school kids,
but there is a minority in high school bands that never ceases to amaze me and
teachers in your field. I have heard a few college bands, i.e. Northwestern,
Indiana University, University of Illinois, and know that these bands have a
far more advanced talent over high school bands, but is this to say that high
school bands cannot play excellent music?? What I am trying to say is that
the top high school bands in the country (how many have you listened to?)
often give the "powerful" performance that I was speaking of earlier. Who are
you to say that I haven't had the "position" to compare with marching band?
Have you thought about attending the National Concert Band Festival in
Indianapolis in 2 weeks? There you might get an idea of what I am talking
about....
