I am going to get all kinds of flame for this one . . . but I must share
the secrets of the pit weary.

There are reeds that work perfectly well without being wet--use them.
The easiest to find are the Rico plasticover; they are BLACK, though,
which can gross out some of your pit mates and/or your mother. I prefer
the Fibercell, which I used on tenor sax last summer for the reed 5 book
in Guys & Dolls. I find that these reeds work better on the bigger
horns (T sax/ bass clarinet)--I use the normal cane reeds for the Bb
clarinet parts and alto sax.

Lots of great sax players use the plastic or plastic covered reeds
exclusively. Dave Koz gets a great sound from soprano tp bari sax, and
all his reeds are black. Ernie Watts (the Tenor Sax god) uses old
Fibercanes on a huge Otto Link--I would kill for his sound.

Good luck!

I have a question to all those people who have played in pit orchestras.
I
have to play bass clarinet, bari sax, and Bb clarinet. Would anyone
have
any tips on how I can keep my reeds from drying out? Thanks for the
help.

Amy
