I had the same thing done by Peter Spriggs in Penticton on my student model bass.
The only thing it needs now is for me to catch up to the ability of the
clarinet. After playing my "new" reworked model, I am convinced that if the
manufacturers would produce a plastic model based on the dimensions of their pro
models with the better keywork, it would be very acceptable for high level
playing. There are differences in tone quality, but is this due the individual
more that the clarinet?

I "need" a clarinet that extends down to the low C and at my level a plastic one
would suit me more than a wood one. That way, I can play it all venues, outside
and inside, own one bass instead of two, save insurance and maintenance costs,
etc. etc.

I am extremely happy with the "professionalization" of my student model bass. It
saved me the cost of a pro model to get a better instrument.

I own a wood pro model soprano and the big difference I noticed is the action of
the keywork and the openess of the air stream. These are physical things that can
be fixed. If any manufacturers are listening, talk to us.

Thanks.
