Generally, the line is the guide to where the top of the ligature should
be. A millimeter or two lower is alright, but for the most part, lining
the top up right with the cut (on any of the clars) should prove best.

Generally, those carved guide lines on mpieces are seriously off (by three
or four mm, usually).
