Hi Everybody!

This is my first time to send mail to you guys! I am happy that there is
such a good place for clarinet players like me. I like this list and I
found I learn quite a lot from here.

Ok! Lets go to the point! In fact, I am now doing a research paper about
Vivaldi and his clarinet works. While doing research, I read from a book
which talking about the position of the mouthpiece. When the writer
described about the mouthpiece of a five-key clarinet, he said,'...the
reed might be placed either against the upper or the lower lip....' Is
that means people in the early 18th century were using their upper lip
to control the reed as well? Is the table of the mouthpiece in a baroque
clarinet facing upward? How about in Vivaldi period, which ways are they
using in his concertos? (People were still using 2-key clarinet in
Vivaldi's period.)

Another question, Vivaldi used Claren, Clarini and Salmoe in his works.
Are they all referring to clarinet? If not, what kind of instruments are
they?

If anyone on the list knows that, would you please tell me and I will be
much appreciated. Thank you very much!
