Position Announcement
Music Theory and Double Reeds

The University of Memphis invites applications for the following
nine-month, tenure track position in the Department of Music beginning
August 21, 1998:

Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Double Reeds; Salary
competitive and negotiable.

Qualifications: Training and experience in teaching theory and either
studio oboe or bassoon at the university level; performance experience
at the professional level; current in computer technology. Doctorate
required.

Responsibilities: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in music
theory and related subjects; teach studio oboe or bassoon and perform
in the faculty woodwind quintet. Successful candidate will be expected
to be involved in the intellectual and musical life of the department
and community and be involved in scholarly research/creative activity.

Department: The Department of Music is fully accredited by the
National Association of Schools of Music and has a full-time faculty
of 45 with approximately 500 music majors. Degree programs include:
Bachelor of Music in performance, sacred music, music history,
composition, music education, music business, recording technology,
jazz and studio music performance and jazz and studio music
composition/arranging; Master of Music in performance, sacred music,
music history, Orff-Schulwerk, music education, pedagogy and jazz and
studio music. Doctor of Musical Arts in composition, performance,
sacred music and music education; Doctor of Philosophy in musicology.
The Department is housed in the College of Communication and Fine
Arts.

University: The University of Memphis is a comprehensive urban
university located in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the most musically
active communities in the Mid-South. Current enrollment is
approximately 20,000 students.
