Lynette--They look different. Silver plating looks "whiter." The only
way to tell, really, is to hold your insturment next to one that you
know is silver or nickel.

Moennig barrels are OK, depending on your mouthpiece. If you are using
a big bore pce (like a Dan Johnston or a Charles Bay), a Moennig will
screw up your intonation--what you would need is a longer barrel made
for the big bore. If you have the typical smaller bore (e.g. Vandoren),
the Moennig would be good--but remember, what you need to getthe pitch
down is a LONGER barrel; a Moennig of the same length will only change
the relationship between pitches, not bring the whole instrument down.

I also have a question along this line. Is there any way to tell what
type
of plating, nickel or silver, that you have? Also, has anyone had
experience with Moenning barrels and if so, good or bad. My instructor
is
recommending one due to my eternal sharpness, but I would like to
research
them first. TIA
Lynnette
