I've used the Lyons quite a lot. They are fine for those pupils who are t=
oo
small for the Bb. They are very light and easy to handle and I've found t=
hat
children can play them just as soon as their adult front teeth are secure.
They have a reasonable mouthpiece and sound pretty good. The main drawbac=
k
is that the little finger keys are not doubled, and the rubbery feel of
those, that makes sliding between E-Fsharp (B-Csharp) impractical. Theref=
ore
the pupils must switch to the Bb when they start playing in keys with man=
y
flats or sharps. And you better have spare pads handy. The whole clarinet
can however be disassembled and repaired without any tools. Which is just=
as
well when the pupils are 7-8 years old
