Years ago I saw a fellow play a screen door spring attached to a alto
sax mouthpiece. He bent the door spring in a "U" shape and played it
rather like a trombone. It had a more voice-like sound quality although
its range was limited to one octave. Maybe some day someone will
perfect its altissimo register.
