Dan - I've worked with singers alot. I know the type of singer to which you
are
referring. However it's been my experience that this type of ritarditis is
not
the least bit evident in good singers. Of course this is a potentially
explosive
subject since my girlfriend is a singer.
Actually I've noticed the opposite of what you are dealing with because of
the
concern about running out of breath.
I've done the Shepherd on the Rock and the Spohr Six German Lieder with two
different singers in the last few months and in neither case was misplaced
rallentandoing an issue.
I actually have noticed this problem much more in pianists who wait over
every
barline especially in slower pieces.
BTW what is your repertoire for the concert? I am always on the lookout for
good
sop/cl/pno pieces.
