Aside from the monetary issues, I concur with Ed Lacys comments...a
professional "spirit" means a lot!
My father is paints & derives an "income" from doing so. On his income
tax he describes his occupation as "painter"...because he feels that it
is up to his audience to decide if he is truly an "artist". This has
been advantageous during the years when the income tax people decided to
audit all "artists". :-)
I know many people who give music lessons (& thus could be called a
professional) who ought not to be giving lessons at all & leave a lot to
be desired as far as artistic work is concerned.
I believe there is far more prestige in being identified as an artist!
