My bass was stuffy - it is a student model yamaha. To improve, I would have had
to upgrade to a pro model - Instead, I contacted Peter Spriggs in Pentiction
B.C. We had a long and frank talk about what could be done to improve the
instrument. I took a chance and had a full blown professional overhaul on the
Yamaha - instrument is still a student model but it it plays like a dream. He
undercut tone holes as needed, changed some mechanisms, reset all the pad
heights etc.

Bass clarinets do not have to be stuffy and I only wish I had had it done
earlier. The instrument is now better than I can play and I won't need a pro
model for a while yet.

I realize this is not possible for a lot of people, but I am sold on the merits
of having your instrument overhauled on a regular basis.
