According to the liner notes for Emma Johnson's recording of all Malcolm
Arnold's clarinet music, Arnold wrote his "Sonatina" for none other than Sir
Colin Davis who apparently began his distinguished music career as a
clarinetist. He gave the first performance with pianist Geoffrey Corbett in
March, 1951.
