Eb-Bb KEY

It is interesting to note that on some early Buffet boxwood clarinets,
from the last century, this Eb-Bb had only one tone hole, which was on
the Right side of the clarinet (looking down from the mouthpiece).
The way it was arranged was: the Left hand key governed the hole on the
Right side, and Right hand key was just a lever to lift the cup.
There is a picture of it in Baines, listed as "Clarinet, Louis Auguste
Buffet, Paris 1844, in the Philip Bate collection."
I actually saw one and examined it when the Toronto Symphony was in
Munich, Germany.
There must have some reason for the Buffet to change and have an Eb-Bb
on each side.
