I meant to say: All the keys are on the *body* of the instrument.

My new Buffet alto clarinet has a vent hole for the low Eb on the bell (all
the keys are on the bottom of the instrument). If you cover the hole with
your foot (much easier without shoes) and play a low Eb what comes out is a
perfect low D.
This is just the thing for transposing those basset horn parts at a summer
concert in the park
