I thought somebody might send a message like this. I should have
specified: cumulative physical height is irrelevant to the issue.
When you're sitting down, your "height" pertains to the distance
between the seat of your chair and your upper teeth (or lip if
you're a double-lipper). This measurement of height determines
where the plane of the bell will lie. Now that I envision the
right conditions, a person who sits up straight with face forwrad
and clarinet at a moderate-to-low angle to the body would need
to have a short legs and a long torso in order for the bell to
land on the knees. Thus, the issue is not one of height, but
of proportion of leg length vs. distance from chair seat to
upper teeth/lip.
