Is this really necessary? You make your point very nicely,
following this expletive, with regard to the link between good
playing and sophisticated skills of instrument repair. I'm
sure Clark Fobes couldn't agree with you more. If he were
to speak for himself, though, I doubt he would resort to profanity.
Manners of expression aside, the repairman who said that playing
and repairing don't mix would do well to attend a local performance
of the San Francisco Symphony or Ballet, where Clark performs as
one of the primary members of their respective sub lists (pssst!
you have to be *good* to get on a major orchestra sub list). And
then ask the other members of those orchestras' clarinet sections
about Clark's first-rate artistry as a clarinet repair- and craftsman.
