Jennifer,

the Noblet *IS* a Leblanc line clarinet! :-) It's more of a low intermediate
clarinet is all.

But, if you plan on recommending instruments, be careful with Selmer. I've
had a lot (okay, lot is a harsh word. Let's say "more than I've had with
Buffet/Leblanc") of different troubles with entry level and low intermediate
Selmers. Their upper intermediates to entry level advanced ones are very
good. And, I can't enough good stuff about Selmer's professional bass
clarinets.

But, I have always wondered about Yamaha clarinets. A lot of fellow students
at my school use them, both in Resonite and Grenadilla and both seem to be
equal in their standing. Do Yamaha's have any real outstanding qualities?
I've never tried one before.

But, back to Noblet's, don't bash them too hard. They do nice work for
intermediates. They only thing I have about Leblancs is no matter what, they
always seem to be too... snobby? (That doesn't really sound right, but I
really can't think of a better word. Sorry if I offend Leblanc-ites.) For
almost all students up through high school, Buffet intermediates always
seem... more suited... and I would recommend Buffets. I am currently in high
school and was referred to a Buffet over a Leblanc I was interested in by a
dealer I knew. The Buffet provided a better price and an overall easier
"total cost of ownership" (quoting from the book) and so far, he was right.
I have over $200 and haven't had much trouble.

I admit, I'm no expert on clarinets, and I probably will end up like other
high school band members. Working at some white-collar job in some cubicle
with my Buffet up in he attic waiting for kids and grand-kids to discover it
with music-playing-dreams, but by my experiences with different types of
clarinets (and I'll admit yet again, I've only actually OWNED three. The
others were through band teachers, the schools, and those I tried before
buying at shops), and I hope this will help.
