David Niethamer mentioned that he passed the "Star Spangled Banner from a
drummer's Perspective" around the RSO and only the drummers didn't think it
was funny.

Try again, David. I think they've forgotten their years in marching bands.
I first saw that piece last September (1997) when it appeared on (oddly
enough) the recorder mailing list. I immediately forwarded it to my son, a
professional timpanist. His response in part:
