As clarinetists, we pretty much all know of David Shifrin's playing -- but
this would also be a terrific concert to attend because of his collaborators.
I had the great pleasure of performing the Brahms Trio with David Finckel and
Wu Han (they are husband and wife, BTW) last summer in a pair of concerts.
They are both marvellous musicians and put on quite a show! (David, for those
who are unaware, is the cellist of the Emerson String Quartet)
Although they told me that they hadn't performed the Brahms before, it was as
if they had a direct line to the composer!
If my personal experience is any indication, those fortunate enough to attend
this concert will be privy to a good deal of pure music making at its' very
best.

Subject: Shifrin Performance
I just received a mailer from Chamber Music Northwest which describes a
series of four concerts they are sponsoring this winter. The first of the
series features David Shifrin on clarinet, David Finckel on cello and Wu
Han on piano. The program will be:
Beethoven, Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Opus 11
Schumann, Adagio and Allegro for Cello and Piano, Opus 70
Schumann, Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet and Piano, Opus 73
Brahms, Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Opus 144
Concert is to be Friday, February 13, at Catlin Gabel School in Portland,
Oregon. Call 503-294-6400 for tickets, $15-$27. Students are $5.
The Chamber Music Northwest concerts are interesting and intimate. I've
never been disappointed.
