Subject: Re: The Best Band Music - Epilogue

Ok Band Lovers,

I received quite a bit of mail regarding band music in general and titles
of band music with fun clarinet parts. As a collector of band literature
(scores) and high quality band recordings (including University of
Michigan live tapes, 1948-1971 with Revelli, 1978-1988 with Reynolds), I
will share my opinions of what I consider to be the best music for
band.....and the best music for band with fun clarinet parts. Many of the
most recent works that have been posted by listserv members may be more up
to date - that is, in my own mine, the jury is still out on many of those
works. (eg.....no works of James Barnes are listed, but his works are
quite good and should be on the list.....I just haven't added them in
yet). Therefore, keep in mind that THIS LIST IS NOT ALL INCLUSIVE! That
is, it is a work in progress (a lifetime I suppose). Also, marches and
other specific genre band music have been left off of the list...unless
the march is unusual in form and style, or if a composer is particularly
well known for that specific work (eg. Barber's Commando March). Don't
react....just delete if you don't like it!

All works are as close to alphabetical as I could get....as I remembered
one, I added.....many list members will disagree with the categories and
where the music was placed......each to his own! The (*) means good
clarinet part. THIS LIST IS A-G ONLY.....THE REMAINING LIST WILL BE
POSTED SOON.

Please - unless there is an issue, do not repost the entire list!

Have fun.....more to come!
