Subj: Barber's Adagio, and favorite band.....

I recall playing one of the transcriptions of Barber's Adagio for Strings in
Harvey Hermann's U. of Illinois Clarinet Choir. (It may have been Harvey's
own transcription). Anyway, glorious sounds from that big choir, about 30
players. Once we got the staggered breathing worked out, and the two eefers
in tune, the climax of the work made your hair stand up! Obviously lots of
concentration on breath support, intonation, and careful entrances
needed.......that would be quite a challenge for a high school choir.

On the other thread of favorite clarinet parts to band pieces, how about The
Crown Imperial by Wm. Walton? I recall a gorgeous unison clarinet section,
part of the processional. I also once played the organ part that enters near
the end......a real feeling of power!

BTW, if anyone wants Harvey Hermann's address and/or phone number, you may
contact me privately. As noted previously, he has a large library of
clarinet choir music, much of it unpublished.
