Just a couple more selections which the Caltech/Occidental College Concert
Band has performed in the past two years. We've also had the honor of having
Frank Ticheli as a guest conductor conducting his works. This particular
contrabass player loves his arrangement of Amazing Grace because Ticheli
knows the horn and takes the part down to a written low D.

The other suggestions include **Prelude and Fugue** by Vaclav Nelhybel (great
bass and contrabass parts); **Ireland: Of Legend & Lore** by Robert Smith
which requires a very good percussion section. In fact our section leader
who's a studio musician in LA actually built a 2' x 2' frame containing about
40 8" long pieces of 2"x"4 lumber threaded with closeline and "bounced" off
the floor in tempo to simulate the sound of marching soldiers); and a
commissioned piece by Daniel Kessner, Professor of Composition and Theory at
Cal State University Northridge called **Symphonic Mobile II (1996)** in five
continuous sections with the first and last sections played in strict order,
but with "interchangable" second, third, and fourth sections.
