A good point, although I don't think this should limit anyone's
suggestions. The band I play in is probably typical (with one exception).
It has an age ranges from 14-70+. The exception is that we have about 6
working professional musicians that play in the band regularly and a few
more on occasion plus some school music teachers that are pretty good.

The director is rarely inhibited by the band's skill level and will try
almost anything. On Tuesday, the first meeting of the semester, he
apologized that he hadn't put out anything easy so we started with Holst #2
which he figured was the easiest thing on the stand. He also conducts a
professional group, the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Since I started this thread, I will try to put together a summary of the
suggestions.
