Laura-
Definitely do not use the mouthpiece that came with the clarinet! The
stock mouthpiece that comes with the R-13 is the same one they use with
the plastic beginner models. I also know that when I recieved my R-13
about 3 years ago, my Vandoren B45 mouthpiece would not fit in the barrel.
Turns out that the barrel was somehow shaped on the inside bore for an
E-flat model!! Needless to say, I had to return my clarinet and have the
barrel replaced. This could be your problem. Does your clarinet play
stuffy? I am not aware of any others having this problem, but we could be
one in a million with a "lemon" of a clarinet.
