Subj: Questions after rehearsal
Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 01:27:23 -0500

I just came home from my orchestra rehearsal and have a couple of
questions.

My director discussed some of next year's repertoire with me, which
leads to my questions.

1. We will do Mahler #4 - My understanding is that there is 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd (bass). What instruments are in the 3rd part? I also understand
that there is Eb part in the 2nd part. Is the bass player doing
anything when the Eb part is being played? I am supposed to assign
parts (probably giving the bass the Eb movement) but I want to keep
everybody happy. Is there a normal distribution of parts?I'll probably
buy a mini-score, but your help would be great.

2. There is a good chance that the principal flute and I will do
Saint-Saens Tarantella. I am not familiar with this. I looked it up on
Sneezy and saw that there is a version for clarinet, flute (or violin)
and piano. If I got this, would it be what I need, or would there be
differences between that and the orchestral version. Have any of you
played this? Is it a bear or is it a fun piece?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
