Several points:
1. The grace notes in the bass clarinet part to Till are to the same
note, as the context makes clear. The principle notes are articulated.
The recording by Szell/Cleveland is excellent and cheap on Sony
Classics.
2. The Cambridge Companion to the Clarinet has good chapters on playing
antique clarinets.
3. I question the wisdom of doing a LOT of playing on a historical
instrument, thereby puttinng wear on an irreplacable specimen. DO NOT
alter it! There are makers of good reproductions. I have a dozen or so
of these 13 key jobs, they are wonderful instruments. I keep them in
playing condition but would never play one more than a little bit.

Have fun, Robert Howe
