The pencil in the hole is the original idea (at least according to
the documentation with my DM-22 - they actually included a
picture demonstrating this use!) - Since I practice in my office, I
use one of the folding stands a lot - the hole is just the right size
for the metronome to hang from the arm on the top piece of my stand.
Speaking of practicing...
