You got it right......with each change in models, the bass clarinet
fingerings change in the below Eb category. Some add right and left hand
keys, others don't even have them. However, they are beginning to get
more standardized as there is greater demand now than when the low c
extension was first released.

You can extend (no pun intended) that to basset horns. The first Leblanc
that I played had a rh D, and a lh D#....the model I own now is reversed.
Go figure.
