A lot of field major like to carry metronomes onto the field with them; in
fact, when we performed John Rutter's Gloria (ala Cavaliers, 93?), our
drum majors were required to have them. Since most band uniforms don't
have accessible pockets, nearly all field majors I have seen have the
metronome strung onto a thick cord using the hole, and it hangs around
their neck. I also use the metronome hole to string it up occasionaly--a
piece with a lot of page turns means that the metronome will be in the way
on my stand, so I string it up and hang it. ^_^
