I have found it in two places. There is a music store in Bloomington,
Indiana which keeps the #1000 in stock. The store is called Pro Winds.
I think it was about $2.25 or so per sheet. Their telephone number is
800/789-8509. (I have no connection to this business.)

Also, there is a company in New Jersey called Micro-Mark. They supply
miniature tools and supplies to hobbyists, model makers, etc. They carry
it in their catalog, or at least they used to. Sorry, I don't have their
number at hand. If you can't find it, I will post a number later.

I knew one bassoonist who had some silicon carbide paper in a #1600 grit!
I would imagine the back of the paper would have been the rough side! He
obtained it from a company which was a wholesale distributor to automotive
body shops. I never went to the trouble to get any, as I figured the
#1000 was fine enough.

I use the #600 whenever I want to actually remove a little cane, and the
#1000 for final polishing. (Yes, being a bassoon and oboe reed maker, I
also use a knife on clarinet and saxophone reeds when it seems
appropriate.)
